Welcome to The Ultimate Game Adventure

Tabletop-roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) allow you to create your own story through gameplay, together with your friends.

Join us on our shared quest of unfolding our imagination and creative potential! Let us go explore dungeons and slay dragons, and so much more…what do you think we could do?

Contact our Game Master Adam to join an existing group, or to start your own…

Why D&D is helpful

I am a member of Journeyman UK, a charity that supports teenage boys in their transition into adulthood, where I’m volunteering as a mentor. We often start a boys’ circle with games including movement and storytelling, and see how it helps relax, have fun as a group, feel safe to share about feelings, and be open to practice and learn skills.

From this point of view, I see the game as a chance for my players to…

  • connect with heroic archetypes that unlock our innate powers (you can be clear like a Warrior, smart like a Magician…)

  • safely act out suppressed parts in an imaginative world with clear rules (let’s be honest: who doesn’t want to be a little devious or mean every now and then? …Rebel against authority? - Yes you can! … Fight for or a good cause? - Even better!)

  • develop social skills (you play your character however you imagine them…but do it so you don’t annoy other players)

  • express themselves by co-creating a unique story that stimulates their imagination (no screens needed)

  • practice the Hero’s Journey (leave the safe home to face the unknown, and return home wiser and more powerful)

My own neurodivergence helps me be understanding and compassionate with other neurodivergent people, who often value spending time in a co-created fantasy world. My experience with integrating kids with ASD and ADHD has been very positive.

What players can learn from the game

  • How to role-play their character, develop goals and relationships

  • How to work as a team, and overcome obstacles together

  • Use the environment creatively to solve problems

  • Honour social rules and agreements to protect the fun.

  • Overcoming a challenge to get to a goal feels highly rewarding and drives one forward.

  • Their choices are meaningful and impact the response from the world.

  • Becoming more powerful (growing up) needs to be balanced with responsibility (taking consequences into account).

What I want to create with the game

  • Make your own game, using affordable or recycled materials! Once you understand the rules, you don't need to buy any products, which are limited by other people's imagination and resources. Just make it your own!

  • Video games are limited by technology and other people's ideas. Your imagination can go far beyond that! You can create your own world, hero, and story. The only limitation is: it has to be fun for the people you play with!

About Me

Welcome to the world where strategy meets laughter and every roll of the dice promises excitement! My passion for board games is matched only by my commitment to bringing friends and families together for moments of sheer joy and playful co-creation.

I prefer creating my own Game Worlds over buying official content. Making my own game equipment from affordable or recycled materials is a great joy, and fun for kids, teens, and adults.

My personal life experiences make me select games that are amazing for having fun, but which also offer plenty of opportunities for growth, and the development of social skills, teamwork, and problem solving.

How the Game works

Dungeons and Dragons is currently the most popular tabletop-roleplaying game. Rules and play styles have changed since its first edition from the 1970ies, but some basic mechanics are still the same:

  • You need 2 or more people. I recommend Age 10+

  • All we need is dice, pencils, and papers. And the intention to have fun together as a group.

  • One person is the Game Master (GM, or Dungeon Master DM). The other people play Player Characters (PCs).

  • The Game Master creates challenges in an imaginative Game World for the PCs to overcome. The Players think about how their Character would act in the Game World.

  • Together, with our combined imagination, and written rules, we create a story. Nobody knows exactly what is going to happen, or how, until we play to find out. (“emergent collaborative storytelling”)

  • This game is not competitive. Everybody wins if everybody has fun playing the game!

Most of the time, it looks like this:

  1. The GM describes a situation and asks the Player: “What do you do?”

  2. The Player describes what their Character would try to do

  3. The GM can say

    1. YES, that works.

    2. NO, sorry, your character cannot do that. But you can try something else.

    3. MAYBE. Make a die roll to find out.

  4. The Player rolls the die, adds some numbers, and tells the GM the result.

  5. The GM tells the Player how their result impacts the situation.

A Story can be…

  1. Contained: the story ends when the game session ends (One-Shot)

  2. Ongoing: the story continues in the next session (episodic series, like a TV series)

Every game is different, as are the people playing it, and the characters they are playing. Everyone likes different things about the game, and likes playing their character in their own way.

  • The GM can use official rules, ignore them, or make up their own rules (House-Rules)

We are all free to use our imagination to have fun, AND we have to consider that we are also part of a group! This limits our options, but keeps the group healthy (totally worth it!).

1st and highest rule: what we do should be fun for everyone!
